Every case I take on, I treat it like it’s a case against me and it's a real feeling. It's not pretend to me. And what I found that happens when I put myself in that position is, my whole being screams survival. It's only then that the deeper doors of creativity naturally open. These more expanded perspectives bring me to the more evolved solutions of the unique challenge.

It’s like the story of a rabbit, that could be being chased by many different predators and it has to find ways to survive and overcome that. Because the rabbit is being personally attacked, it’s subjected to the emotions that bring out survival. It is the utilization of that survival perspective that makes me, with my strategies, unique.

There is nothing more creative and powerful than the instinct to survive. When I take on a case, I recognize it's a personal attack against you, and I also feel it as an attack against me. In this atmosphere of survival, those creative doors open and we can develop creative formulas that we will need to overcome those attackers.

From the Restaurant Business to the Business of Law

I didn’t become a lawyer in the traditional way. I came up a unique and difficult way. My career, began not in a classroom, but in the middle of a courtroom battle. Whether I liked it or not I was in this devastating legal assault that dragged out for 6 long, incredibly tedious, emotionally draining years.

At first, I hired an attorney. But as the fight dragged on, I realized I was not being represented in a way that would bring about the results and the justice I felt I had coming to me. So I decided to try and represent myself.

I began scrambling to find out how to work harmoniously with the court system I had no past experience with. It became very time consuming and emotionally draining and I found myself asking for help from any legal teacher, lawyer, professor, or expert that would talk to me.

In the midst of all this emotion, a wonderful thing happened to me. I made some very important legal friends and connections willing to help me navigate the treacherous waters that I found myself in. These new connections became a lifeline for me and these legal heroes in my conflict also are who inspired me to go to law school and obtain my own law degree.

Even now as my own battle is behind me, and I help others navigate their own treacherous waters, I find myself feeling more confident, in dealing with unique situations, knowing I still have that support behind me.

After years in industry where she was reverse engineering patents, she returned to higher education, earning her JD from Pepperdine Law School in 2002.
